Remembering Dr. Ira Adams-Chapman

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Dr. Ira Adams-Chapman. She was an active member of the Newborn Brain Society and has been a dedicated member to the field of neonatal neurology for many years. She spent her time as a neonatologist in the Division of Neonatology at Emory and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, a medical director for the Developmental Progress Clinic, and leading many studies based on outcomes for preterm and term infants surrounding medical and social risk factors.

As stated by one of her colleagues “she was a giant of a human being, whose heart and compassion were immeasurable in their magnitude, and who lived amongst us with the quiet demeanor of a righteous one, and whose grace and dignity and decency and dedication are simply irreplaceable, within our walls and within our minds.”  Another colleague described her as “a lady of few words, much elegance and scholarship, armed with a great sense of humor and a kind knowing smile.  She loved a silent laugh and was devoted to family, friends and faith. While she was widely traveled and well-educated, she was always a Georgian, loyal to the poor and disenfranchised.”

She will be missed by all. Thank you for your community in helping us to honor Dr. Adams-Chapman and her outstanding work to advance the field of the newborn brain. The Newborn Brain Society has donated to the Black Breast Cancer Alliance in her name. Please consider donating to this important cause that was close to her heart.
