Steering Committee Member

Lauren Jantzie, PhD, is an associate professor and pediatric neuroscientist at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and the Kennedy Krieger Institute. Her translational research lab is dedicated to understanding the pathophysiology and treatment of many forms of perinatal brain injury. As the leader of a large multi-disciplinary research team that includes discovery bench science, translational studies, and clinical investigations, Dr. Jantzie aims to understand brain recovery and repair following encephalopathy of prematurity, traumatic brain injury, hemorrhage, hydrocephalus, and exposure to toxins (i.e., opioids, cyclohexanone). Together, the Jantzie lab identifies novel drug targets and designs age- and disease- appropriate therapeutic strategies unique to the developing CNS and immune system. Dr. Jantzie’s expertise in myelination, oligodendrocyte development, neural-immune communication and inflammatory signal transduction synergizes a technical repertoire that spans molecular, cellular, epigenetic, ultrastructural, microstructural, structural, and functional domains.
