Dr. Terrie Inder is awarded the Newborn Brain Society Honorary Fellow Award for her transformative contributions to the field of neonatal neurology, advancing our understanding of the developing brain and improving outcomes for vulnerable newborns worldwide.
Terrie is a dual-trained neonatologist and child neurologist whose career has spanned pioneering research, exceptional clinical leadership, and dedicated mentorship. Her groundbreaking work applying advanced neuroimaging techniques in newborns reshaped how clinicians and researchers approach brain development and injury in preterm and high-risk infants. Her research has defined patterns of brain injury, identified critical windows for intervention, and provided key insights into how early-life experiences influence neurodevelopment.
Terrie currently serves as Chair of the Center for Neonatal Research at Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) and Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the University of California, Irvine. Prior to this, she was Chair of the Department of Pediatric Newborn Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School. She has authored over 330 peer-reviewed publications and has been cited more than 11,000 times, in addition to leading numerous international collaborations that have shaped clinical care and policy across neonatal and neurological disciplines.
Terrie’s leadership has extended well beyond the lab and clinic – she is widely recognized as a generous mentor, thoughtful collaborator, and passionate advocate for improving early brain health. Her dedication to training the next generation of physician-scientists has left a lasting imprint on the field.
The Newborn Brain Society is honored to recognize Dr. Terrie Inder as the 2025 Honorary Fellow, celebrating her lasting impact on newborn brain care and the global neonatal community.
