UCNS Approves New Neurologic Subspecialty in Neonatal Neurocritical Care

The Newborn Brain Society is excited to announce that the United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties  (UCNS) has approved Neonatal Neurocritical Care (NNCC) for neurologic subspecialty recognition. The NNCC subspecialty application was prepared, submitted, and sponsored by the Newborn Brain Society, and the UCNS Board of Directors approved the application on August 3, 2022. We are now working with UCNS to finalize the standards for the fellowship training program accreditation and certification criteria for physicians. The NNCC accreditation and certification process is estimated to take 12-18 months to complete. Details and updates for this timeline will be available on the UCNS website

NNCC is a rapidly evolving field that provides complex neuroprotective care to fetal, pre-term and term infants who have or are at risk for brain injury. Establishing the NNCC subspecialty furthers the Newborn Brain Society’s mission to advance newborn brain care through international multidisciplinary collaboration, education, and innovation. We are grateful to everyone who has contributed to this major milestone, and we are looking forward to announcing further updates!
