Newborn Brain Society

Weekly Newborn Brain Webinars

NBS Weekly Webinars started on April 2nd of this year and have already reached impressive milestones. In the first month, we had over 3,250 registrations from 71 different countries.

As many of the educational activities have been canceled during this COVID-19 pandemic, the Newborn Brain Society found an opportunity to fulfill its educational mission in the field of Newborn Brain care and started weekly educational webinars.

International experts in the field were invited to participate in NBS Weekly Webinars. The online sessions were advertised to the community by mail, NBS website, and social media. Attendees are able to register and send questions prior to the day of each webinar.

The sessions occur every Thursday at 12pm (EST), which last one hour and includes questions and answers in the end. All presentations are recorded, uploaded, and made available for access to our members in the NBS members portal.  Members click here to log-in.

The April agenda included:

  • Betsy Pilon: “Supporting HIE families”
  • Seetha Shankaran: “Hypothermia for HIE, Updates, and Controversies”
  • Gerda Meijler: “Neonatal head ultrasonography: how to scan a baby, normal anatomy of the neonatal brain”
  • Linda de Vries: “Neuro-imaging in the full-term infant”
  • Carlos Ivan Salazar (Trainee Session): “Neonatal Seizures”

The May agenda began with a special Grand Round session with several world-renowned experts and there were more than 1,200 live attendees for that single session and where Dr. Volpe was granted the inaugural honorary Fellowship award for his life-long dedication to advancing the field of neonatal neurology.  Learn more about this session in this news article.

We believe this initial tele-educational experience in NBS demonstrates how technology can be used to reduce distances and break barriers in order to provide high-quality educational activities to a large number of people in distant places.

NBS Weekly Webinars are planned to last for this entire year and we hope our team can keep moving on with the educational purpose of this society.
