In Memoriam: Dr. Maria Delivoria-Papadopoulos

The Newborn Brain Society shares in the sadness of the neonatal neurology community at the passing of Dr. Maria Delivoria-Papadopoulos. “Dr. D” devoted her life to the care of newborns and was a true pioneer in the field of neonatal critical care. During decades of an incredible career, Dr. Delivoria-Papadopoulos contributed immensely to our understanding of the cellular mechanisms of cerebral injury following hypoxia.  Her passion for clinical care and research were matched only by her dedication to mentorship and training, having shaped the lives and careers of numerous clinicians and scientists over her tenure.  The NBS plans to dedicate an upcoming section of our Educational Webinar Series in honor of Dr. Delivoria-Papadopoulos, in recognition of her many contributions to basic-translational developmental neuroscience. In the meantime, we send our deepest condolences to all her family, friends, colleagues and mentees who are feeling the incredible loss of an amazing physician, scientist, teacher and human being.
